Prisoners set barracks on fire in Gujrat's district jail

GUJRAT (Dunya News) – Prisoners in district jail on Monday set barracks on fire amid riots in the jail which left three policemen injured.

The jail officials said that DSP city and two other policemen were injured as the police threw shells in attempt to take control of the situation. Prisoners snatched the weapons from the police officials and took control of a part of the jail.

Reports said that as prisoners attempted to unpin the hangers in the assistant superintendent’s barrack, it led to clash between them which culminated in rucks and fire inside the jail. Police reported that the police and rescue teams had enclosed the jail to prevent further untoward incident. Meanwhile, the RPO Gujranwala reached the jail for negotiations with the prisoners.

On the other hand, Punjab caretaker Chief Minister (CM) Mohsin Naqvi took notice of the incident and directed Commissioner Gujrat and RPO to take necessary steps to bring the accused to justice.
